Aertssen Infra shows craftsmanship in circular demolition in Temse

In Temse, the Aertssen Infra team recently demonstrated an impressive demonstration of circular demolition during the demolition of an old store. This project, commissioned by our partner Brebuild and contractor Colruyt Group, is a wonderful example of cooperation and sustainable innovation. Hilde Carens of Colruyt Group entered into discussions with Aertssen about the circular possibilities at an early stage, resulting in a strong construction team and mutual commitment.

An important step forward in our sector!

At Aertssen Infra, sustainability is central to our vision, and this project highlights our focus on carefully separating and reusing materials. Concrete and reinforcement were accurately separated, with a distinction between A+ concrete, free of contaminations such as paint or asphalt, and standard concrete rubble.

The A+ concrete, a paragon of purity and quality, will be reused as aggregate for new concrete mixes. This reuse underlines our commitment to the wider use of sustainable materials in various construction projects and highlights Colruyt Group's innovative, sustainable pioneering work.

The recovery of structural elements such as columns, vaults and the store floor was carried out with the utmost precision. Ytong blocks, known for their light weight and excellent insulation properties, were separated from reinforcement on site and processed into cat litter, an innovative application that highlights the versatility of reusing different building materials.

Store wall panels and the flat roof were also given due consideration. Roofing material was offered to Derbigum to produce bitumen roofing, while asphalt from the parking lots was reused for new asphalt projects. Wood, scrap iron (including copper, aluminum, steel and stainless steel), and even old underground storage tanks from the DATS-24 gas station were carefully handled and directed to appropriate processing facilities.

We look back with pride and satisfaction on this project, which is a testament not only to our technical skills and safe, innovative approach, but also to our unwavering commitment to a more sustainable future.
