Historic ship Ortelius to Doel
Friday night November 19th the historical ship Ortelius was transported from a dry dock site in Antwerp by our colleague Bjorn of Aertssen Transport to the centre of Doel. A spectacular operation that took over four hours.
The historical school ship Ortelius dates from 1898 and was originally a sailing freighter. At the end of the 20th century it served as a school ship for primary school children in Antwerp. In the meantime, the ship has been out of service for about 20 years. Last year it was sold to the non-profit organisation 'De Maakschappij' in Doel. They is committed to restoring the sailing heritage and opening it up to a wider public.
With the Port of Antwerp in our backyard, we have always been fans of working in and around the water. And so we were delighted to help the non-profit organisation. In return? Some spectacular images, which we love to share with you!
